The town has an excellent range of coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and fast food outlets. In addition to a recently-refurbished Library and the John Warner Sports Centre, there is Barclay Park with its pond and children’s playground, plus a large Civic Hall offering a diverse programme of popular entertainment, and a popular nightclub. Hoddesdon is at the epicentre of an assortment of leisure activities - the famous Rye House Speedway and RSPB Nature Reserve are just to the north; the Lea Valley Park with its sailing facilities, watersports and riverside walks is on the Eastern edge; the enormously popular Paradise Wildlife Park is a couple of miles to the South; while delightful woodland trails through the ancient Broxbourne Woods can be found on the Western outskirts of the town. Hoddesdon offers a great shopping experience with an excellent combination of high quality independent retailers, major banks and building societies, national chain stores and four supermarkets, plus a twice weekly outdoor market. There is a good selection of hairdressers, card shops, chemists, fashion stores, florists, jewellers and opticians. In addition to the main post office, the town also features individual shops specialising in fishing tackle, hand made furniture, books and weddings.
